In 1975, Prabhupada was flying from Kenya to South Africa for the firsttime, and as it happens, the South African soccer team had just played inKenya and was also on the plane. They had won the match and were in a rowdy mood. After the plane took off, the stewardesses started serving drinks, and these guys started getting high and lighting up cigarettes, although they were in a non-smoking cabin. Pushta Krishna Maharaj, Prabhupada's secretary,was sitting next to Prabhupada, and got disturbed.

He thought, "Why should Prabhupada be subjected to this?". He called thestewardess and said, "This is a non-smoking area, so please ask them toextinguish their cigarettes."  The stewardess asked the football players toextinguish their cigarettes, which they did, and then she left. But, sincethey were drunk, after a few minutes they lit up again. This time Pushta Krishna got up to heavy these guys.

他想，“为什么要帕布帕德遭受这个？”他叫来空姐说道，“这是禁烟区域，那么请叫他们熄灭他们的香烟。”空姐要求那些足球队员熄灭他们的香烟，他们照办后空姐走开了。但，既然他们已经喝醉了，过了几分钟之后他们又点起了香烟。这次普斯塔·奎师那站了起来。

Srila Prabhupada said, "Where are you going?" Pushta Krishna said, " Well,they are smoking, Srila Prabhupada."  In a deep voice Srila Prabhupada said,"Sit down." Then Srila Prabhupada looked him in the eye and said, "What is the difference between us and them if we cannot tolerate?" Prabhupada could tolerate the cigarette smoke and the rowdiness. He was undisturbed. The pure devotee, the Vaishnav, exemplifies this taror iva sahisnuna -being more tolerant than a tree.

圣帕布帕德说，“你要去哪？”普斯塔·奎师那说道，“噢，他们在抽烟，圣帕布帕德。”圣帕布帕德以低沉的声音说，“坐下。”然后圣帕布帕德看着他的眼睛说道，“如果我们不能容忍那么我们和他们之间有什么区别？”帕布帕德能容忍这些烟味和吵闹的无赖。他没有被打扰。纯粹的奉献者，外士那瓦，亲身示范了 —— taror iva sahisnuna —— 比一棵树还要宽容。
